It’s been an eventful season for golf but it’s one that ended in the best possible way. During a turbulent period with a number of high profile defections to the LIV circuit, the PGA campaign produced a thrilling finale.

Rory McIlroy edged out Scottie Scheffler to claim the FedEx Cup at the climax of the Tour Championship. It was only the second time in history that a golfer had come from behind to beat the series leader under the new points system.

It was a stunning four days from the Northern Irishman who can now look forward to the 2022/23 season with great confidence.

History Maker

In closing out the Tour Championship, Rory McIlroy also became the first golfer to win the FedEx Cup series on three separate occasions. Success in the Tour Championship was his third win of the season after he claimed victory in the CJ Cup and the Canadian Open.

McIlroy will now focus on Europe and the DP World Tour. As the PGA season concludes, he is scheduled to compete in the Italian Open and the BMW PGA Championship.

It’s been a consistent year and, alongside those three trophies, Rory has also recorded a number of single digit finishes. The only disappointment for the 33-year-old will have been a failure to capture another Major trophy.

McIlroy came close to success in the US Masters and in the Open Championship but was edged out on the final day on both occasions. That was the only blemish on a solid campaign, but now it’s time for Rory to focus on 2022/23.

McIlroy’s Major Chances

The first Major tournament of 2023 sees the world’s best players return to the Augusta National for the US Masters. The competition will begin on Thursday April 6th and will conclude four days later on Sunday April 9th.

Betting markets are in place for the Major events throughout the calendar year and early predictions place Rory McIlroy as one of three joint favorites. Sharing the billing at the top of the market are Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler.

The chasing pack is headed by 2022 Open Champion Cameron Smith while Jordan Spieth, Patrick Cantlay and Will Zalatoris are also expected to challenge.

When the PGA Tour season returns, those markets will adjust on the back of ongoing results. The figures are supplied by online betting sites affiliated with Sbo.net and they will be constantly updated.

While checking the numbers, visitors to the website can also take in breaking news stories, plus betting guides and extensive sportsbook reviews. Anyone looking for a way to put all that knowledge to the test can also stake directly in the golfing markets.

All sports betting companies listed on the SBO website will be ready to accept new customers, subject to eligibility and a completed sign up form. Registration is fast and secure and there will often be a welcome promotion to take advantage of.

Once onboard, other benefits may include live streaming, in-play markets, a choice of other sports and a mobile app.

Rory McIlroy is at the top of the US Masters betting and it’s a similar situation for all four Major tournaments in 2023.

A Matter of Time?

Rory McIlory’s first Major tournament win came via victory at the US Open in 2011. By the age of 25, he already had four Majors under his belt, but he’s not been able to add to that tally since 2014.

His best chance of success in 2023 may come at the Open Championship in the UK. The tournament returns to the Royal Liverpool course at Hoylake and McIlroy won when the event was last held here eight years ago.

Rory will also be targeting the US Masters. This is the only one of the big four tournaments that has eluded him so far, but a second place finish in 2022 will give him confidence next April.

It has been a long time since that last Major victory, but a third FedEx win clearly shows that Rory McIlroy remains at the top of his game.

He’ll be competitive on both main Tours next season, but the Northern Irishman will be desperate to add an overdue win at any of golf’s four Major tournaments.
